Application and evaluation

Practical concert hall evaluation method

Summary

Based on the investigation into suitable musically relevant test signals and the development of the IACC-based binaural hearing model, a practical method for conducting measurements of the perceived auditory source and environment width of auditoria has been derived.

Detail

The project has involved the development of an IACC-based binaural hearing model that predicts the perceived auditory source width of simple stimuli, and the creation of musically-relevant test signals that excite a range of spatial attributes. These can be used together to conduct a practical and rapid analysis of the properties of auditoria and other acoustical spaces. A method has been derived that allows the user to determine the maximum number of factors from a few short signals. These can be analysed at a later date, using the display options shown above.
